getacres.app is the website for the Acres desktop app. This page covers what thewebsite collects — analytics, and what happens when you buy a license — and what the app sends when you activate one. In short: no ads, no data sales, and nothing about your notes ever reaches us.
Who we are
This site is run by First Aligned LLC (“we”, “us”), a limited liability company formed under the laws of the State of New Mexico, United States. We are the data controller for the processing described here. For anything about your data, email us at [email protected].
Analytics
We use PostHog (PostHog, Inc., US Cloud) to understand which pages and sections of this site work. It records page views, the sections of the homepage tour you scroll to, and clicks on download and buy links. To tell one visit from the next it stores a random identifier in a first-party cookie and in your browser’s local storage; PostHog also processes your IP address to derive a coarse location and to deliver the request. Requests travel through our own domain. There is no advertising, no cross-site tracking, and no sale of this data. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing whether the site explains the product.
Browser tracking protection and content blockers stop it entirely, and you can ask us to delete what PostHog holds by emailing [email protected]. The purchase pages (where your license key is shown) load no analytics at all.
Buying a license
Licenses are sold by Polar Software Inc. as merchant of record. When you buy, Polar collects your payment details, email, and billing address, and handles tax, receipts, and refunds underPolar’s privacy policy. We never see your card details.
After checkout, Polar sends you back to our success page with a checkout reference. That page asks our activation service (hosted on Supabase, in the United States) for the license key that Polar issued, and displays it to you. We store nothing from that exchange; your keys and receipts live in your Polar customer portal.
What the Acres app sends
The app is local-first: your notes live in a folder you own, there is no account, and the app contains no analytics or telemetry. The one thing it sends us is alicense activation: when you enter a license key, the app makes a single request to our activation service carrying the key, a device label (your computer’s name), and the app version and platform. The service returns a signed license record, which is stored on your device together with the purchase email. Nothing is sent after that, and trial timing is stored locally. Update checks and the optional cloud services (Sync and Publish) are described in the app’s own privacy policy, which ships with Acres.
Where your data is stored
Analytics data is stored by PostHog in the United States. The activation service runs on Supabase in the United States (Northern Virginia). Polar is a US company. We are a US company, so that is also where we reach any of it from. If you’re in the EU or the UK, this means your data is transferred to the United States; each provider handles it as our processor, or as merchant of record, under its published data-processing terms.
Who we share it with
No one beyond the providers named above: PostHog (analytics), Polar (purchases), and Supabase (the activation service). We don’t sell your data, we don’t share it with advertisers, and we don’t send it to third-party marketing tools.
How long we keep it
Analytics events are kept for up to twelve months. We hold no purchase data; Polar keeps your receipts for as long as its terms require. The activation record is stored on your own device. If you email us, we keep the correspondence only as long as needed to handle your request.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Ask what we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- Have it corrected or deleted;
- Object to the analytics processing.
Just email [email protected] and we’ll take care of it. Depending on where you live, these rights come from laws such as the EU/UK GDPR or US state privacy laws like California’s CCPA/CPRA. If you think we’ve mishandled your data, you can complain to a regulator: in the EEA, your local data protection authority; in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office; in the US, your state Attorney General, and in California also the California Privacy Protection Agency.
Cookies & local storage
The only cookie and local-storage entry this site sets is PostHog’s analytics identifier described above. There are no advertising cookies and no fingerprinting.
Children
This site isn’t directed at children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has bought a license or otherwise given us data, email us and we’ll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above.
